Black Doors Hell

I’m sure there’s a hell in which you have to paint paneled doors for the rest of eternity.

My original plan when we installed these doors in the house was to paint one every six months for the next three years. I mean… it takes one coat of primer and three coats of paint to cover one of these beauty in black. It’s long, repetitive, creep-in-your-dream work.

But since we have to put the house on the market in November (only two and a half years ahead of schedule), I had to paint five doors in one week. In fact, I’m not entirely finished. I have to scrape the little courage I have left to do the last coat on the last door. Ugh.

Paneled door painted in black

All paint by Benjamin Moore. Door: Onyx; Trim: Cloud White; Wall: Silver Satin.

I love the result though. Black is so dramatic.

So, while I’m working hard on completing every projects we started on the house, I realized I had been feeling a little miserable lately. For lack of writing. As usual.

Therefore, I decided I would do NaNoWriMo this year. Because one can’t be too busy, right?

I’ll use this opportunity to exorcise a novel idea that has been bugging me for a while. I got absolutely no plot. Only a world and main characters’ arcs.

Should be fun :) Right…

My Home Office/Creative Space/Magic Portal

Distractions are a writer’s worst enemy. They are everywhere and come in every shapes and forms. One of the best tactics I developed against them is having a well designed dedicated place to write and be productive. I like to think of my home office as a sort of physical portal that can quickly transport me to that special place of creativity, focus and alignment. It also acts as a reminder: everything in this room – pictures, books, objects – remind me of my dreams and aspiration.

Home office/Creative space

When I finished renovating my office back in March 2009, I presented it over at Decor8 with details about the process and the costs involved. Unfortunately, Decor8 subsequently suffered a data loss and the page on which it was displayed disappeared as well as all the comments. Since many people came to this site through the office pictures I placed on my Flickr account, I figured it wouldn’t hurt to make the info available again. Prices are in CAD and doesn’t include shipping.
