Best. To-Do List. Ever.

I figured my excitation over this little app was due to my being a huge geek. But then I casually showed it to my muggle sister when she told me about her Excel to-do list (*shake head*) and her – dramatically positive – reaction got me thinking… Maybe this app is as awesome and life changing as I’m inclined to think…
  1. Do you like making lists?
  2. Do you like striking things off lists?
  3. Do you like good design?
  4. Do you have stuff that needs to be done?
  5. Do organizers usually give you headaches?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, let me introduce you to TeuxDeux, an amazing web-based to-do list application. The folks at TeuxDeux made a brilliant video to show you all the things it can do for you. There’s really no need for me to add my own presentation. You should watch it. It’s funny.

And if you like it and plan to use the app, you should watch the PartDeux, to learn about some new features.

Tips on using TeuxDeux

1. Make it your homepage.

The best to-do list won’t help you get things done if it’s not regularly under your nose. By making it your home page, you make sure you can’t forget all the great things you planned for yourself ;)

2. Put it on your smartphone (or download the app, if you have an iPhone)

Having access to your list wherever you are is of the utmost importance. Again, you can’t have it in your face enough. There’s a neat iPhone app allowing you to do that easily. I, however, have a Droid, so I simply put a shortcut to the Web page on my main screen and voilà! Instant easy access to my list. It’s not perfect, and I’m terribly jealous of the iPhone app, but still… it works.

3. Embrace its simplicity

Now, you may be frustrated about the lack of a certain features that would be such time savers for you… But let it go. All you need is there. Clutter is the enemy of “getting things done”. There’s a fine balance between too much and just enough. It has been reached here.  Remember why you ended up not using all the other organizers you tried…

4. Organize your Someday bucket with headers

Instead of a long ass list, cut your “Someday” list in categories with headers :)

Here’s some ideas: “Read, watch or listen”, “Projects”, “Travel”, “Before dying”, “Gifts to buy”, “Wishlist”, etc. I’m sure you can find your own…

Organize your "Someday" list with headers!

5. Never look back…

Sure, you lost a frustrating portion of your life thinking there was no solution to your lack of discipline or organizational skills. But do not fret about it anymore. Life will be better from now on. Look at the bright future you just beautifully listed on your TeuxDeux list…
